I was going through some old e-mails from Steph and thought I would post any I had with funny stories about Sam - that way he can read stories in his mom's own words.  The following are quotes from two different e-mails from Steph about Sam's kindergarten screening

April 29 2008

"Sam has his Kindergarten screening this morning at St. Luke's.  I drop him off at 10:30 and he's done at 12:00.  He already told me he is nervous..and then he said "mom what if I can't remember my phone number..."  I was like Oh buddy you'll be fine - if you can't remember something just tell them you forgot.  But deep down I'm nervous for him too.  I really have NO clue what they are going to be asking/doing...it will be interesting.  I've been told this is not a tool designed to weed kids out, but to better understand their learning behavior??  Yeah whatever that means!"

from a later e-mail...

"The screening seemed to go okay...Sam said he had fun.  They just came out of the room around 12PM and that was it.  So I don't know if we are going to get a letter telling us how he did or what he needs to improve on or what.  Honestly I don't know the whole reason behind this screening - I've heard several different things 1.) it's a way for the teacher to understand where the kids are at  2.) I've heard it's a way for the school to determine if a child is ready for Kindergarten (yeah try telling a parent of a 5 year old that their kid is NOT ready) - come on.  Sam just told me that it went well, but he didn't know all of the answers.  I tried to get him to talk about it a little more but he wouldn't, he said he didn't want to.  We had lunch with Mark afterwards and then on the way home Sam said he didn't tell us everything because he doesn't want us to be disappointed that he didn't know all of the answers.  So I told him that wouldn't happen and that we were proud of him for just participating.  God if I had to do a screening before Kindergarten - no way would I have "passed" I was such a quiet kid and I'm sure I didn't know how to spell my name let alone read!!!  In some ways we expect too much of these little ones. "

Thanks for sharing those emails Megan! They are great to read and I can hear Steph's voice. Sam, you are so much like your momma. She we was so very proud of you!
Thanks Megan!
Dear Ann and Megan,

I just this morning sent a message to you Megan, mentioning listening to Stephanie's voice on a saved voicemail. It was from her birthday in 2008. Like you I frequently read her emails. But, hearing her voice
is special and heart wrenching.

Sam's anecdotes from school can be especially moving when he relates thoughts about his mom. Last year the Christmas songs made his "head hurt because he did not want to cry."
We looked at pictures together on Sunday from the day he was born. We took a picture of the sunset that day.
And, he loves seeing his picture with his mom when he is so tiny. Stephanie would be so proud of her brave, bright little boy!

Best,

Molly
Thank you, Megan, for this wonderful idea. I had a few emails from Stephanie that I had wanted to share with Sam and this is the perfect place to do it.

The first was one that she wrote in October, 2007 after my first little boy was born:

"Isn't it just amazing how much your life has changed
in just these past few weeks? It's like what in the
world did you do before he arrived...right??? I swear
Mark and I would wonder that all the time as we
watched Sam just sit and do nothing :) There is
nothing better than having a little peanut of your
own. We are so happy for you!"

The second was just a quick note she wrote when I mentioned I was staying home from work to take care of John:

"Good Luck with the new home and so happy for you to be staying at home, it is the best job in the world :-)"

Sam, your Mom truly felt she had the best job in the world. She loved you dearly. I admired her so much as a Mother. I hope you enjoy reading these words of hers someday.

Here is another email I have saved from Stephanie about Sam. We enrolled Sam and my son Logan, a friend from preschool, in a gymnastics class and Steph took them for the first class:

"Hey Kristin -

A quick update on the swingers gym class...the boys did great! I was so proud of both of them. We walked in late, about 5 minutes and the class had already begun. The guy leading the class was not very warm or friendly (at least I didn't think so) - however he warmed up in the middle. I think there were just so many kids he had to be sort of strict to get them all to pay attention, etc. Anyway they quickly did a stretch, got split up into teams and then did 3 different obstacle courses. I think only Logan, Sam and one other girl were new, everyone else had done the class before. The boys were so good - they listened so well and tried everything. Some of the kids were out of control, but not our boys - they did what they were told and waited their turns, etc. It was so cute to see them."

Sam, everyone has said it here, but again, your mom loved you so much and was always proud of you.
